Multilingual DTP
Software:
Adobe InDesign
Lang. Pair:
English (Source) > German (Target)
The Challenge:
Localizing a structured medical report with high text density, strict margin constraints, and complex data columns. German translation resulted in a +25% text expansion, causing:
Overlapping text frames and broken alignments.
Disruption of the original visual hierarchy and icon-to-text ratios.
Text overflow in narrow data columns.
Raw Import
Layout integrity compromised due to German text expansion.

Layout Repair
Restored structural integrity and legibility.

Detail Adjustments
Applied context-aware German hyphenation to prevent column breakage without reducing font legibility. "außer-gewöhnlichen"
Micro-adjusted leading (inter-line spacing) and tracking to maintain original paragraph separation while accommodating longer translated strings.
Recalibrated baseline alignments to ensure visual consistency between iconography and localized content.

The Result:
A print-ready German layout visually consistent with the English source. All text frames, master-page constraints, alignment relationships, and page structures were checked for overflow and production consistency.
